The Spanish Tennis Federation, RFET, has recently announced that the Puente Romano Sports Complex in Marbella (part of the Marbella Club Group) will host Spain’s Davis Cup. Officially sponsored by BNP Paribas World Group, the first round tie will be with Great Britain on 2-4 February 2018.

It is a great honour for us at Marbella Club Hills to announce that our partners – the Marbella Club Group, owners of the Puente Romano Hotel & Sports Complex - will be hosting the event.

There are plans for great expansion of the central court area so that it will accommodate more guests. The mayor of Marbella council, íngeles Muñoz, proposed the expansion so that up to 8,500 people could attend the golf tournament.

The central court at the Puente Romano hotel is expected to be converted into a 10,000 sq. stadium and it will include stands, boxes, and TV commentary boxes.

Great Britain has not faced Spain since 1986, and back then it was a successful home tie for the Brits.

Leon Smith and the British Davis Cup will face arguably the toughest test in tennis. Spain’s status as the pre-eminent tennis nation is surely cemented by the fact that, since the US Open, they have owned both world No.1 positions through the recent success of Rafael Nadal and Garbine Muguruza. It is true that Nadal himself has not played a single match in the Davis Cup for two years. But even if he does not show up, there are no fewer than six other Spanish men in the world’s top 40 – a statistic that no other country can match.
