The dazzling Benahavís is one of the most picturesque, idyllic, quintessential Spanish towns in Andalucia. If you are still unaware of its existence, once you discover this hidden gem you are guaranteed to fall in love with its mountain magic.

Location

The municipality stretches from the coastal area to the mountains between the two municipalities of Marbella and Estepona. It is about 500m above the sea level and the views are impressive. Once you finish soaking up its natural beauty, right at the heart of it you will find a traditional and tranquil Andalusian town of Benahavis which has a truly blissful setting.

The richest municipality

Benahavís is one of the richest municipalities in Spain thanks to a large number of high-end developments and golf courses that surround the town. In total, there are 9 golf courses in the area, making it a place with the highest concentration of golf courses on the coast. It is home to luxury urbanisations such as La Alquería, Lomas and of course La Zagaleta, an exclusive gated estate, home to some of the most expensive properties in Spain.

And then there is Villa Padierna, a 5-star hotel and golf resort located a few mins drive from Marbella Club Hills, that hosted Michelle Obama and her family back in 2010.

Nature and greenery

The town of Benahavís might seem petite, but in reality, the whole municipality is 145 square km large. It has spectacular mountain ranges, valleys, woods and rivers that make the area one of the most picturesque and virgin looking places on the Costa del Sol. Its low-density build, the natural surroundings and the high number of golf courses make the area one of the most beautiful and sought-after areas on the coast. If you are looking for tranquil, green and peaceful surroundings, Benahavís certainly has it all.

Residents

The population of Benahavís is just over 7,100 people with 40% of it being foreigners.

Getting here

Benahavís can be reached by either A-7175 that runs to the town from the A-7 highway between San Pedro and Estepona, or AP-7 paid highway from which you need to turn towards San Pedro and follow signs for Benahavís. Both journeys take around 15 minutes.

There are plans for buidling a new road linking the Marbella Club Golf Resort to the Benahavís road so that the coastal road can be comfortably reached in under 10 minutes. More information to come.

Airports

Benahavís is located 71km away from Málaga airport which is about 50 mins drive. Alternatively, an airport in Gibraltar is a good option for those travelling directly from the UK.

Despite the countryside feeling, thanks to the peaceful location away from the hustle of the coast, it is an easy 6 minute drive to the beach, 10 minutes to Puerto Banús and 15 minutes to Marbella.

In that way, you can enjoy the best of both worlds – the peace and quiet of your elegant country home, and the finest dining, nightlife and stunning beaches just moments away.
