"BENAHAV탍S - ANDALUSIA'S BEST KEPT SECRET"

Nestled amongst some of the most magnificent mountain views on the Costa del Sol, sits a stunning Andalusian village. Its narrow winding streets combined with a touch of traditional Moorish architecture provide a unique atmosphere reminiscent of times past. Situated only 7 Km into the mountains from the main coast road, Benahavis offers easy access to some of the most vibrant surrounding areas of Marbella, Puerto Banus and Ronda whilst also offering a tranquil and peaceful haven for people wishing to escape from the hustle and bustle.

A brief history

Benahavis was founded by the Arabs at the end of the 11th Century. The town is named after Havis, an 11th Century Moorish prince. The name is derived from the Arabic expression í¢€Å“Bin al Havisí¢€, which means í¢€Å“son of Havisí¢€.  The Castle of Montemayor was located in one of the most prominent areas in town overlooking vast areas of the Costa del Sol and extending as far as the African coast. This strategic position facilitated surveillance for soldiers at a time when piracy and invasion were common threats. The castle’s location soon attracted the attention of the Catholic Monarchs who made it their mission to conquer the last Moorish outposts in Andalusia.  They eventually succeeded in taking possession of the town in 1485. From then on, a dispute arose between Benahavis and Marbella which lasted three and a half centuries. Nowadays, Benahavis is an independent municipality with an extremely high percentage of resident expatriates and is one of the richest municipalities in Spain.

Its close proximity to some of the most glamorous and world famous destinations, combined with the sheer beauty of the natural surroundings provide the perfect spot for one of the most exclusive developments on the Coast: Marbella Club Hills. Located among 7 golf courses and only a stone’s throw away from Puerto Banus and Marbella, Marbella Club Hills offers you the possibility to own your own home in one of the most prestigious locations.

Home of the rich and famous

Lord Stanley Fink described his home in La Zagaleta – a very exclusive country estate in Benahavis - as í¢€Å“the nearest thing to paradise I have ever seen, at least in Europeí¢€.  Lord Fink is one of the many wealthy individuals who own a property in this magnificent billionaires’ enclave. Other famous personalities rumoured to be included on this list are Hugh Grant, Rod Steward and the former mayor of Moscow. Although most famous residents prefer to maintain their anonymity, it is a well known fact that Benahavis is the wealthiest town, per capita, in Spain.
