We’ve been eagerly anticipating Design Week Málaga (DWM – an important event for architecture, interior design, and construction enthusiasts alike.
Held at the iconic Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga (FYCMA), this year’s edition promises to be a standout with over 600 professionals and 15,000 visitors expected.
The event will showcase cutting-edge concepts, cutting-edge technology, and a blend of local craftsmanship with global design trends, making it one of the most influential annual gatherings in the industry.

New concepts and celebrating talent
Design Week Málaga has always been about pushing boundaries, and this year is no exception. One of the main attractions for 2024 is the Free Construction Zone, a 6,000 square meter space dedicated to innovative ideas and bold designs. Architects, interior designers, and construction professionals will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity across diverse installations focused on office, hospitality, and residential projects. Expect to see how design is evolving to address today’s modern needs.
In a new initiative to engage attendees, DWM will allow the public to vote for their favourite designs in categories such as Best Interior Design, Innovative Use of Materials, and Sustainability in Architecture. This interactive element not only adds excitement but also reinforces DWM’s commitment to making design more accessible and inclusive.

Merging tradition and innovation
While DWM always spotlights industry giants, it also maintains a strong focus on elevating local artisans and emerging talent. The Junta de Andalucía will host a special exhibition space celebrating the craftsmanship of Andalusian master artisans. This exhibit will feature handcrafted furniture, sustainable materials, and design solutions that balance cultural heritage with modern aesthetics—perfectly encapsulating the event’s theme of bridging tradition with innovation.
Yet, DWM 2024 isn’t just about looking to the past. A significant focus will be on the future of design, with immersive technology playing a starring role. In collaboration with leading tech firms, DWM will offer hyper-realistic 3D visualisations powered by cutting-edge software like Unreal Engine. Attendees can explore design concepts and architectural projects in a virtual, interactive environment, providing a glimpse into how digital tools are transforming the industry.

A citywide design experience: Beyond FYCMA
Design Week Málaga 2024 goes beyond the boundaries of FYCMA, extending its influence across some of Málaga’s most premium venues. Thanks to a partnership with BCD Meetings & Events, a citywide Design Trail will take attendees to hotspots like the Uppery Club and Cosentino City Málaga. Each location offers something unique—networking sessions, workshops, pop-up exhibitions—creating countless opportunities to connect, collaborate, and discover the latest trends shaping the future of design.

Spotlight on the hospitality sector and local craftsmanship
This year, the hospitality industry will have a dedicated space at DWM, thanks to the Spanish Association of Hotel Directors (AEDH). This segment will explore how avant-garde design and innovative space planning are shaping guest experiences and increasing the business potential of hotel properties. Expect a focus on trends that prioritise both aesthetics and functionality in hospitality spaces.
Moreover, Andalusia’s design heritage will be in the spotlight with exhibitions supported by organizations like the Junta de Andalucía and Mármol de Andalucía. These installations will showcase how local materials like natural stone are being adapted for contemporary design, proving that cultural preservation and modern design can coexist beautifully.

Awards and industry recognition
The event will culminate in the prestigious Vicious Magazine & Design Week Awards, which will honour outstanding achievements in hotel and beach club design. Categories will range from Best Staging to Most Innovative Concept, providing a comprehensive look at the creativity, innovation, and forward-thinking approaches shaping the industry’s future.
