Last year, Carlos Moy탡 (41) lifted the trophy when he won against the legendary John McEnroe (58) by beating him in two straight sets.
Moy탡, who trains world number one Rafael Nadal, was forced to retire seven years ago due to a hip injury. However, the notable age difference gave him an easy win against the American.
Both players proved to be great performers. Although Moy탡 didn’t want to deploy his greatest arsenal of power, he was surprised more than once by the accurate hits so well known by the American.
Each year, the tournament counts more than 2,000 spectators. Last year, amongst them, were the former international tennis player Manolo Santana, the national basketball coach, Sergio Scariolo, and the international coach Manuel Luis Pellegrini.
All of the figures being able to see the world’s tennis stars in a relaxed atmosphere with the players joking amongst themselves.
"It is incredible to have such a list of players in Marbella again. The Senior Masters Cup has once again made Marbella the centre of world tennis for a few days, and I am sure that we will return to enjoy tennis, the city, its people and its privileged climate. I am very proud that they all want to come back and very happy to have Carlos Moy탡, a great friend but at the same time a great player, "said AIbert Costa, tournament director and the winner of the 2016 edition of the tournament.
